Now’s the time to get your furnace checked and repaired
With school back in session and fall fast approaching, now is the time to get your furnace checked by a professional furnace repair company in your area. The last thing you want to do is have temperatures drop and your furnace not work when you need it. It’s recommended to have your furnace checked twice a year, during offseason for this very reason.
Things to do before your furnace repair tech shows up
Check your thermostat – when you check your thermostat there are a few things to do look for.
- Is the battery dead or does it need to be replaced?
- Is there debris or dirt?
When checking both of these items, clear out any excess debris that might have gathered during the warmer months and change your batteries, so you don’t worry about coming home to a freezing cold house on a chilly day.
Check the breaker – another thing you can and should do before your technician shows up is checking the breaker. If there’s a fuse that’s burned out – you’ll want to get that replaced.
Double-check your time/day stamp – something you might not have thought of is to check the time and day stamp on your programmable thermostat. With daylight savings, it’s important you have the correct day and time. While you’re at it, check your automatic timer settings.
Clean the area around your furnace – if you’ve accumulated a lot of excess items around your furnace, now is the time to clear them away. It’s easy to use this space as extra storage when the furnace is not in use – just clean it up and you’re good to go!
Oil the furnace blower – if you’re not sure what this is, you should mention it to the tech and have the professionals do it. If you do know where this is and how to do it, make sure you get it done.
