Spending Quality Time with Children
Parents have to get into different roles in a day – as a cook, managing household chores, self-employed, working at office and more. The demands of work at home or office are higher these days, and we might even end up working later hours or weekends. And we get knocked down with low energy sometimes or the other, and even barely have time for self-care, which is vital. Apart from finding some me-time, we need to ensure that we have schedule family time with the little ones at home.
We must keep aside some quality time for our children, even if it only an hour. It could be anything – like sitting down to have dinner together and talking about how the day was, reading a bedtime story, playing board games, having the conversation while you pick them up from school, or even a break to have outings on weekends. Quality time is the moment well-spent, ensuring the kids open up and talk to you, feel happy, feel your love and warmth.
Spending some happy, quality time for our children is a way of telling them that we too appreciate and look forward to the time with them. The parents who spend quality time with their kids are the happiest children and helps with positive development. There are many online portals and counsellors who can help you with the parenting guide and parenting tips
So, busy families, let us check the ways to set aside some quality time for our children –
Schedule connect time with the children
Make sure to have a direct face-to-face conversation through play, having food, going out for a walk together, or even bedtime. You can even plan a mummy child day out on the weekends for shopping or a visit to the park.
Avoid all the distractions
Switch off the television, do not attend the phone call (unless urgent), and ensure to send the time exclusively with the children. If you start a board game with them, make sure to stick with them till the game is over. Ensure to complete the activity. Even if it is for every little time that you spend with them, it is sure to make a positive impact on them.
Do you get caught up in the kitchen preparing meals more often? Then the kitchen is the best place where the family members can gather together, cook together and talk while working. Encourage your children to make and eat meals together, sit for a few minutes and talk about the day or anything the child is interested in.
Tell your children you love them unconditionally
Speaking about the love you have for your children builds trust and warmth in them. Ensure to tell them that you love them and that they are the most important to you.
Appreciate when they do it right
Every child is different. But, they try their best in what they are good at. Ensure to acknowledge, encourage and appreciate every time they do it. It helps them to work harder and achieve their goal.
Quality time is the meaningful connection you intentionally share with your child. Concentrate on spending time to make a lasting and positive impact on your child instead of the quantity of time you spend with them. It is the way to assure support and build faith in them.
