Basic poker rules: do you know how to start?

Poker can be summed up as a card game based on betting between players. In other words, the Bandarqq casino is not directly involved and you do not play against the “bankroll”. The rules vary depending on the game you are playing; the No-Limit Texas Hold’em is the most popular variety, but the Pot-Limit Omaha and Stud are also played around the world.

The objective of the game is to make the best possible combination of five cards, using your private cards and community cards. Private cards are exclusive to the player who receives them, while community cards can be used by all players. However, the player with the best combination of cards does not always win. This is because poker is a game of betting and strategy, in addition to being extremely mental.

Poker game steps

There are usually four betting rounds: pre-flop, flop, turn and river. The pre-flop is the betting round that takes place when players receive their private cards, but no community cards have been dealt. The flop occurs after the first three cards are dealt, while the turn is the round just after the fourth community card is exposed. Finally, the river is the last community card and therefore the last betting round for each hand.

Difference between Tournaments and Cash Games

Nobody knows the cards you have, so you can outwit your opponents – through bluffing – to win more chips. In cash games, you can stop playing and exchange your chips for cash whenever you want. To start playing, you need to know the ranking of hands.

Poker hand ranking

The poker hand ranking defines the best possible combinations in order. The ranking determines who wins the pot (all the chips that were bet during that hand) in the event of a showdown (when at least two players reach the end of the hand without giving up). The order of hands is as follows, from best to worst:

  • Royal Flush: ten to ace, all in the same suit
  • Straight Flush: any straight of the same suit
  • Court: four cards of the same number
  • Full-House: three cards of one number and two cards of another number
  • Flush: five cards of the same suit
  • Straight: any type of five-card straight
  • Three of a kind: three cards of the same number
  • Pair: two cards of the same number
  • High card: the best individual card you have, with Ace being the highest and 2 being the lowest

Memorizing and understanding what the ranking means is essential for beginning players. Forgetting that the flush is worth more than the straight can make the difference between winning and losing money. If necessary, keep a cheat from that ranking until you no longer need it.
