Are drones only used for Youtube videos?

When many of us hear about drones, especially from DJI, we think about videography. And most of us encounter the amazing product of drone through Youtube videos. From the obnoxious title, you should be expecting some other use cases of drones. With the advice from the official DJI Authorized retailers in Australia, here’s the 4 major yet less mentioned drone use.

  1. Inspection drone

One of the best use cases of drone is to use it for hard-to-reach areas, like tall buildings or the underside of bridges. In those cases, you will be looking for a inspection drone.

Depending on the use that you are looking for, you can choose from portable drones like the Mavic or enterprise options like the Matrice from DJI. While the smaller Mavic 2 can travel to everywhere you go, its bigger brothers meant they are more stable for more detailed flying and image captured.

Other than high resolution video and zoom capabilities for detail inspection, one of the most welcomed features for an inspection drone is its infrared camera. From the infrared radiation released from heat, the infrared camera of the drone can check for cracks and leaks that is not easily visible.

  1. Surveying drone

The use of infrared camera kindly led us to the second variation of drone use – the surveying drone. Made to survey a huge area without the need of check every inch manually, surveying drones often carry more than a normal camera and an infrared camera.

Instead, surveying drones, like the P4 Multispectral, can carry 6 cameras to capture a wide range of visible and invisible light. Ranging from near-infrared and red to green, blue and visible light, all these cameras help, literally, to see through the surface.

Along with other equipment such as a GNSS Mobile Station, the accuracy of the drone measurement can be down to centimeters. Considering the range that the drone can measure, the accuracy is unrivalled by other methods. And it can speed up construction, unlike the train line from Darwin to Adelaide.

These surveying capabilities of the drones are hugely helpful in applications like precision agriculture, environmental monitoring and inspection. The use of drones, rather than human steps, makes mapping and collecting information about crop much easier and more efficient.

  1. Thermal Imaging Drone

Obviously, this is another alteration by installing infrared camera on a drone. And the use of it is more than the previous two applications.

Thermal Imaging can be used for over 60 different scenarios. Many of which, because of the potential danger or difficulty, are made easier and safer with drones.

Thermal imaging drones can fly into areas with potential danger, including a nuclear power plant or gas storage, to search for a potential leak before sending human into the danger zone.

On the other hand, thermal imaging drones can be used to track drug dealers in the night. Rather than chasing them with a loud helicopter, officers can track the drug dealers with a much quieter drone until they arrive at a location that is safe for arrest. This minimized the potential risk involved in chasing drug dealers in the neighborhood.
