Barcelona is known for many things – Antoni Gaudí’s work, medieval history, for being among the richest cities of Spain, love for football, and of course, as the capital of Catalonia. If you have been planning a trip, you probably have checked about popular sights and attractions already. On a planned day tour of Barcelona, you can expect to explore most of these places, and the good news is there are some amazing local services for guided tours. In this post, we are sharing more on things to know before you travel to Barcelona.

  1. Make a list. There are a few things in Barcelona that you cannot miss. The list includes Basilica de la Sagrada Familia, Gothic Quarter, La Pedrera, La Rambla, Palau de la Música Catalana, Parc Güell, Casa Batlló, and Camp Nou.
  2. Do not talk politics in Barcelona. Even if you are interested in the tussle and political happenings in Spain, especially Catalonia, you may want to avoid that conversation with locals here. Things can get heated up in no time, and people do take offense for taking sides.
  3. Be safe. While Barcelona is fun, it is also infamous for pickpockets. Make sure that you don’t carry all the cash and cards you have with you. Leaving it behind in the hotel in a safe place may make sense.
  4. Take it easy. You may feel that you are in a rush to see everything, but don’t hurry up things in Barcelona. You will be surprised with the kind of entertainment that even small bars and restaurants offer. Even for important sights like La Sagrada Familia, take your time.
  5. Catch the sun on the beach. Barcelona has many beaches, of which Barceloneta Beach is the most iconic one for sure. If you want more fun and younger crowd, head to Mar Bella Beach, or don’t mind traveling a tad away, visit Nova Icaria Beach. Ocata Beach and Bogatell Beach are also good options.

Barcelona is crazy when it comes to haggling. If you checking for souvenirs at one of the flea markets, make sure that you don’t rush and agree to the price right away. Els Encants Vells Flea Market is a good place to shop. If you are looking for day tours, just check all the important options and select one that covers sights you are interested in. Guided tours and hotels are best booked in advance, and do not stay very far from the city center.
