So what can we truly hope from a Lean Six Sigma career, and can it assist us with fresher profession choices like BI (Business Intelligence) and Data Analytics and so forth, of late this has been one of the typical queries I get from my peers as well as understudies at our Lean Six

Sigma Workshops or gatherings…

A considerable lot of them are already heavily invested in this line, while some have just started out as Green Belts or just graduating to Black Belt level, and well really the inquiry is self- evident, the prime worry being newer fields like Data Analytics and Business Intelligence are more of a buzz in the business community and especially their top management.

To allay their fears, I would like to briefly say that anything that stops to develop/evolve surely becomes obsolete, however Lean Six Sigma is still advancing, and at a decent pace as well, it is now being utilized in more industry verticals than 10 years back as it accumulates an ever increasing number of best practices from different quality systems, after-all It wasn’t that way back in time that Lean and Six Sigma were practiced in silos, and even now, while in some places these have still not synergized and used properly, but in a majority of places we can see these working together nicely. Lean is now increasingly being acknowledged as an equal partner to six sigma and vice-versa. Also, as practitioners of “Quality” we must not ever be too focused on a particular tool or standard, instead we must understand when to use which tool to really get the job done, and that’s my first point.

My second point is that … Quality and Data related inherently, and however data may manifest maybe as numerical information or any subjective form, it’s this data which has consistently been at the center of six sigma, it is primarily a data driven technique all things considered. It’s simply that now data is taking more and more importance in the digital age and management guys simply love this, there is so much information available today than just a decade back on all kinds of customer needs and interests and the BI framework and analytics are a natural consequence of the same, however still planning and executing a great BI frameworks requires best practices gained from six sigma and its proven data collection strategies and expertize, Lean skills are so universal that they are again needed to bring down inefficient/wasteful mechanisms for setting up BI. Process understanding/planning is as also an absolute necessity and how information lines up with business objectives has consistently been center to DMAIC methodology anyways.

And just to touch upon my first point, I would also add that in the current scenario, lean six sigma experts should be prepared to learn some more tools like Tableau or systems like Hadoop, and just like systems that need to evolve, as quality experts or even beginners, even people must evolve, rather supplement their existing knowledge and experience by learning

diverse systems, believe me learning a few more tools is “effortless” compared to entering a whole new field, and this is the exact case if you are a lean six sigma pro, you already have the base and you just need to supplement your knowledgebase.

Also, Top Management anywhere is always enthusiastic about numbers and for sure they get even more enthusiastic when results and numbers line up all the way to their desired business goals, and remember that Lean Six Sigma is a proven system that has profited more organizations that we can include in this short blog.

Any system that depends on Result Orientation, Lean Fundamentals, Solid Numerical analysis is assured of a healthy continuity in the future as well, so all lean six sigma people you can rest easy, there really is nothing to stress over, as a matter of fact, the more the data the more the merry a statistician needs to be.

Finally a humble advice is for anyone who is keen on understanding multiple quality systems and approaches to data analysis or presentation, and how these systems can be encapsulated in a lean six sigma framework at a strategic level should definitely go for ProSigma’s workshop for Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt Certification in India , once through you will appreciate how much this system has already evolved and where it is going in future.
