A clogged kitchen sink can be very irritating and annoying. Reaching out to kitchen cleaning services can fix the issues. But before doing so, read the ways mentioned below that can help you unclog your kitchen sink quickly, on your own.

5 Methods To Clean Your Clogged Kitchen Sink Drain

  1. Use boiling water

Being the easiest and least expensive one, this is the best fix to try first. Remove any standing water as much as possible. Pour the boiling water into the sink and turn the faucet on. If the water is standing still, repeat the process a couple of times. You may also pour half a cup of table salt down the sink drain before pouring boiling water. Remember not to use this method if the drain is attached to PVC pipes.

  1. Break it down with baking soda and vinegar

At first, remove any standing water. Pour equal amounts of baking soda and vinegar (apple cider or white) into the drain. Seal the opening by covering it with a stopper. After 15 minutes, remove the cover and run down hot water through the drain. Repeat the process if you see any progress.

  1. Check the garbage disposal

A clogged garbage disposal can be the reason for the drainage issues. Turn on the disposal to break up the blockage. If the removal gets overheated, reset the switch for an easy reboot. After rebooting, try turning it on again. If the unit gets broken, disconnect the power to the unit and do not try to stick your hand in the disposal. Try to turn the blades manually until the clog breaks. If that does not work, contact any kitchen cleaning services to test the removal and remove the clog.

  1. Use a plunger

If there is no issue with the disposal, use a plunger to plunge the blockage away. Using a flat-bottomed plunger is ideal for this purpose. Fill in the sink with hot water until it covers the bell of the plunger completely. This is to create a tight seal around the plunger. For a double sink, seal off the drain on the other sink. Position the plunger firmly over the clogged drain and start plunging several times vigorously. When the suction clears the clog, remove the plunger to flush the drain with the water.

  1. Clean the P-trap

P-trap is the curved drain pipe beneath the sink. Place a container underneath the drain to collect any debris or water. Unfasten the P-trap, clear out anything stuck, re-install the P-trap and run warm water through the pipes.

Conclusion

It is better to prevent the drainage from getting clogged in the first place. Prevent overloading the garbage disposal. Wait until the already disposed of garbage runs through completely. Refrain from disposing of items like oils, meat, gum, coffee grounds, etc. Ensure that you run plenty of water after each use. To keep things running smoothly, it is essential to maintain and take care of your house’s plumbing components and systems.
