It is important for everyone to be prepared because an injury can happen at any time. One of the most important components of any first aid kid is a bandage. There are several types of bandages that someone can choose from. Each type of bandage, sold by a local pharmacy, has its own unique application.

Pharmacy Gauze Bandage

Perhaps the most common type of bandage that someone might require is called the gauze bandage. This is a woven piece of material that is fashioned into a strip that is then rolled like toilet paper.

This type of bandage is sold in a number of different widths and lengths. It is typically coated with an absorbent material that will prevent it from adhering to an open wound. In addition to acting as a bandage, this material can also be used to keep a dressing in place.

Compression Bandage

Another common type of bandage is called a compression bandage. This bandage is usually applied to a limb to treat common problems such as ulcers and swelling.

This bandage will shorten around the limb once it is applied to avoid exerting too much pressure, causing discomfort. This bandage is also incredibly resistant to stretching and will not tear easily.

Triangular Bandage

This bandage is also commonly called a cravat bandage. This is a piece of cloth that has been fashioned into the shape of a right triangle. Often, safety pins are used to keep it in place. This bandage can then be unrolled and folded as a typical bandage. It is often used to treat head injuries.

The Tube Bandage

Finally, the tube bandage sold by a pharmacy is usually woven into a continuous circle. It is often used to hold splints and dressings in place. Therefore, it is used to treat musculoskeletal injuries and open wounds.
