Have you ever wanted to helm the power of a lightsaber in own hands? If so, you’ve come to the right place! That’s right, one no longer has to be a farmer, a scavenger, or have a link to the Skywalker legacy to understand the true power of the Jedi with this lightsaber. Rey’s lightsaber has quite an interesting history, as it was the same lightsaber Anakin Skywalker used to wield before turning to the Dark Side. So who is Rey? How did she attain such a storied lightsaber? Here’s a look at Rey and how she got her lightsaber.

About Rey

On Jakku, Rey made ends meet as a scavenger who hoped that she’d be picked up by whomever left her on such a barren planet. Although she lived on a backwater world unaware of the universe — and what it had in store for her — she learned how to be a warrior, a pilot, a mechanic, and a survivor.

However, it was when she met BB-8 when her whole life changed. BB-8 is a Resistance astromech that was carrying a clue that could lead to where Luke Skywalker was hiding. Then as luck (or fate) struck again, Rey met Finn, a renegade Stormtrooper. The three fled Jakku and found themselves neck deep in a galactic war to only have their destinies shaped by what we know as the “Awakened Force.”

When experiencing force visions, Skywalker’s lightsaber called to Rey. Although she initially rejected what would be her destiny, she was captured by Kylo Ren, a dark side warrior who took her to the Starkiller Base. Rey eventually escaped with Finn, then took up Skywalker’s lightsaber and embarked on the journey to find Luke Skywalker, the Jedi Master.

Rey eventually found Luke on a lost world, but the meeting doesn’t exactly go as planned. Luke refuses to teach Rey and he believes that the Jedi Order should come to a close. Thankfully, Rey refuses to leave and Luke caves by teaching her three lessons to be convinced that she is deserving of such education. Rey’s connection with the Force grew stronger during this training, but it was discovered that her connection with Kylo grew as well — and their fates would eventually become intertwined.
