Choosing the Right Garage Door
A garage is a fantastic addition to any home and can be a great selling point if you are looking to up the overall value of your property. If you already have a garage, odds are you are not in the market for a new door, if you are building a garage, it is helpful to know all about different garage door sizes.
Standard Garage Doors
The most common size is the standard, one car garage door. These are slightly larger than the width of a car and are used to make single entry points for cars and other vehicles into the garage. These doors are the least expensive because they are smaller and they do not have to have special motors in order to be able to raise and lower them. A standard door is going to be what is added to a garage if you have a single car garage or if you have a two car garage and want to have two separate doors.
Double Garage Door
This is a much larger garage door and is often used in cases where you are going to be bringing in larger vehicles or two cars at once. These larger doors make it possible to accommodate larger vehicles and two cars at once and do give a much larger point of access to the garage that you are building. They may require a larger opener or even two openers depending on what type of door you choose and how large it is.
Two Garage Doors
Another example that is worth noting is cases in which you are using two doors in one garage. This is often the case with garages that are slightly larger or wider than a two car garage and that want a separate and well defined entry for both vehicles. This is a great option if you do have two full size cars, if you want to be able to replace one door as needed, and if you are not wanting to use a larger door that will cost more and that will take more to maintain. Two garage doors are a great option for very large garages or for those families or couples that have more than one car and that want a slightly more affordable option in terms of maintenance.
Shop Doors
There are also shop garage doors. These are much larger than a standard or even a double garage door. They are often built to be very tall, very wide, and very large to accommodate things like big rig trucks, larger machinery, campers and other large items that are going to need a much larger berth. This is great if you are working on different cars or vehicles of different sizes and you are not sure what size the next thing that is coming through your door might be.
Man Doors and Smaller Doors
You can also get garage doors that are meant for people to pass through. These doors are very common and are often on the side of the garage to offer access so that you can get into the garage without having to open the garage doors. You can also get smaller garage doors that can be used for moving smaller vehicles, mowers, 4 wheelers and more. These doors are often very specialty and you may not be able to get them in a regular store.
No matter what type of door you choose, the right installer can make a huge difference. Taking the time to find the right door and the right company can make a huge difference in your overall experience.
