There are two primary parts to SEO; On-Site and Off-Site SEO. These are also sometimes referred to as On-Page and Off-Page. Each has a significant role to play when it comes to reaching a higher rank. However, the question here is, ‘Which one is more important?’

Let’s take a look at each and then we’ll figure out the answer at the end:

On-Site SEO

On-Site SEO refers to any content included on your main website. Things such as your homepage, about us page, and so on are considered on-site. Optimizing your On-Site SEO requires all of the following things and more:

  • Optimized Titles and Headings
  • Optimized Meta Data
  • Optimized Written Content with Keywords
  • Interlinks and a Strong Sitemap
  • Links to Healthy & Relevant Websites

Obviously, this is incredibly important. Without an optimized website, your rank would look pretty sad no matter what you did. Let’s take a look at Off-Site SEO now:

Off-Site SEO

Off-Site SEO refers to your content that isn’t on your main website. Things such as guest blog posts, Quora answers, and such are examples of Off-Site SEO. The parameters for these content pieces is a little different from On-Site SEO:

  • Optimized Titles and Headings
  • Optimized Written Content with Keywords
  • Backlinks to Your Main Website
  • Links to Healthy & Relevant Websites

As you can see, it requires much of the same thing. However, the main difference is that you need to make the content link back to your main website somehow. This should direct you on what kind of Off-Site content to create. To help you with this, check out free Google SERP Simulator Tools.

Conclusion

As you can see from these two SEO factors, both have significant value. If I was to tell which one you should focus on more, I would say that would be On-Site SEO. Without On-Site SEO, you won’t hold the attention of your viewers and your ranking will be terrible at best.

That being said, you also need Off-Site SEO or else no one will find your website in the first place. Both are extremely important. You should optimize your main website first, as that is necessary for any kind of success. However, you need to work on both in the long-run.
