Miss Nude Australia: Will we be able to return to hosting erotic performance pageants?
2020 was a rough year for a lot of people, we eased into 2021 with a lot of uncertainty but we are over the worst and there is a definite move into better times, however, we missed out on a lot during this period. One of the most important events in the world of strippers is Miss Nude Australia. This premier showgirls competition has been going on for more than 27 years. Pole dancing competitions are popular but Miss Nude looks at more than just one aspect of stripping. It is about the art of striptease. The last person to be crowned Miss Nude Australia is Tia Carrera. A Melbourne-based stripper who had previously won the Miss Nude Victoria pageant in 2017 and again in 2019 as well as Miss Erotica Australia.
The Miss Nude Australia is held throughout Australia and the ultimate winner gets crowned to perform at the Miss Nude World Pageant. In this competition, the Australian showgirl crowned as the ultimate Miss Nude Australia gets to perform in the Miss Nude World Pageant and has to beat several contestants from other countries.
Due to the pandemic, a lot of pageants and competitions were cancelled. However, when clubs were closed, the World Wide pageant couldn’t be held because a lot of the international contestants couldn’t participate because of travel restrictions. Strippers come from different backgrounds and have a variety of training and skills that they use for their stage performers. You have strippers who might have had previous training as ballerinas, circus, and hula hoop champions. As Miss Nude Australia, Tia had a chance to perform throughout the country, acting as a featured performer in a lot of clubs throughout Victoria.
Tia Carrera performed an Avatar-themed show which was dramatic and cheeky. The show was heavily based on the pole. She was able to demonstrate her skill on the pole but she incorporated glow sticks, twerking, and acrobatics to create a great performance. She demonstrated how talented she is as an erotic and all-round dancer. The last time a stripping pageant made it into the news was in 2019 when a performer literally lit up the stage. It happened at the Crazy Horse Revue in Adelaide in 2019 where the final heat took place for the ultimate title.
After being cancelled in December 2020, Miss Nude World was postponed to March 2021. Carrera and other performers across the globe would have loved to perform in the Miss Nude World pageant but the spike in COVID cases in the state of Illinois where the pageant was planned to take place forced the organisers to cancel. It finally took place in March of 2021 without the participation of other companies. This weeklong event resulted in the crowning of Angel Beau as Miss Nude Wold 2021, and Nia Nebula as Miss Burlesque. For now, as the world returns to normal the reigning Miss Nude Australia remains Tia Carrera but the future of the competition is still uncertain, however after 27 years of success, this pageant will surely survive for a couple more decades – the industry needs such competitions to keep the performance standards in strip clubs high.
